Police began investigating the fraternity after 3 women and a man were hospitalized after drinking at the September 12th party. One of the women hospitalized told investigators that she felt a "weird feeling and sensation" before blacking out 45 minutes after consumption, and was certain she had been victimized by the TKE. Another women told police that "all access" cards were provided to attractive women, who could then get unlimited drinks all night long.
The fraternity at this specific university apparently has had a reputation for putting Roofies into women's drinks. Rohypnol, known most commonly as Roofies, is a tasteless and odorless drug that causes memory loss and other "intoxicating" effects.
Police entered the frat house under a search warrant and found 42 people under 21 drinking, all with a red "X" marked on their hands. No sexual assaults have been reported in connection to the party.
There is no doubt in my mind that "date rape" drugs were being distributed to the women at this party. And this is so disgusting to me, but Roofies seem almost commonplace at college parties and in modern American culture. What does that say about the treatment of women in American society? And how can men find it "acceptable" to drug women in a social environment? I think the only solution to this is education at an early age, for both men and women. This is more than just a sexual harassment issue: the root of the problem is the imbalance between genders, the inferiority that is still apparent in a lot of social aspects. And until we achieve complete equality and respect between women and men, this will continue. Can we make the change?
shows how alert young people have to be in ALL situations!
ReplyDeleteHonestly, in our country there is a sort of culture where drugging women is almost accepted, or at least not condemned in the intense ways that it should be. It is good to see that in this situation something is being done.
