KKK Attempting a Comeback...? Td Simons 2nd pd

Concerned citizens have started complaining about distributing packages they have found in their driveway and front yard. These packages have been showing up in dozens of U.S. cities these past six months. These packages contain a flier with a membership application, an address for the national office, a list of beliefs and three Jolly Rancher candies from the KKK, the Ku Klux Klan. The KKK is an infamous hate group towards African-Americans, Jews, immigrants, gays and Catholics. They have been around for awhile, but people believed that the group had called it quits during the 70s’ when the group was weakened by internal conflicts, court cases etc. However the SPCL, a group founded by civil rights lawyers, says that there are 5000-8000 KKK members across the country. The fliers seem to now be targeted to Latinos in addition to the blacks and Jewish people. They say, “Beware, we want your jobs, we want your home and we want your country”. Others say, “Always remember: If it ain’t white, it ain’t right. White power”. People are disgusted by these messages and in shock that the KKK still exists and is active.
This article was written by Kristina Sgueglia, Marisa Marcelino and Ray Sanchez from CNN on Tuesday, September 2, 2014. The authors’ point of view on the KKK was clear that they did not support them by the tone throughout the article and the people they interviewed. However, the authors never clearly stated their opinion on the KKK. I don’t agree with the KKK’s beliefs and I am disappointed in my country. I thought that this type of raging racism had come to an end a long time ago. I hope this group will learn that their time has passed and their beliefs are no longer welcome.

  1. This is creepy beyond words.. I don't understand it at all, and don't think I ever will. Hopefully the KKK will die down in the next few decades (better yet, few years).

  2. This is very shocking to me because this can be a serious issue in the U.S. It is interesting that things like this are going on after what has gone on in history. You would think that people would rather want to live in a healthy and peaceful environment. I hope things get better over time if not soon!!!!!!!!!!! -Sarah Oviedo 6th pd

  3. This needs to be looked into and put to an end before it gets any worse.

  4. It's kinda sad that there are people who are actually that desperate to hold on to the past. Seriously. That era has passed and the rest of the nation has moved on from that time, and America has and always will be about progress and moving forward. Of course, there are always some dumb hicks who fail to understand that...
