Nadal Hasan is an army psychiatrist who is on death row for having killed 13 people at Fort Hood in 2009. Recently, he sent a letter to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi (the leader of ISIS) asking to become a citizen of the Islamic State.
In his letter he wrote, "It would be an honor for any believers to be an obedient citizen soldier to a people and its leader who don't compromise the religion of All-Mighty Allah to get along with the disbelievers."
Hasan's rampage in 2009 not only killed 13 people, but also left 32 injured. His targets were unarmed soldiers on their way to and returning from Afghanistan. His attack was stopped when he was shot by two police officers.
When I read this article, I was initially confused about why someone from our military would want to be a part of ISIS. Then as I read on, I saw that this was probably a last minute attempt to try and escape the fate Hasan has brought upon himself. Just like his rampage, this letter was a cowardly plan to get out of what he has done to himself. The killings were unjustified because he knew when he went into the military, that he would be required to serve. Now as he faces the consequences of his slaughter, he is acting like a cornered animal lashing out. What he's reaching for this time is the ISIS.

ReplyDeleteWow, you are exactly right. It seems as if his pleas to join the ISIS are an act of cowardice to get out of his fate. Nice analysis.

If he successfully joined ISIS he would most likely be received with open arms having already proven himself and would've escaped the punishment served to him here in the US.
