Katherine Gonzalez, 5 years old, was found dead in a vacant apartment. She was reported to be missing at the Sontera Palms Apartments in the Lake Highland area. She didn't live there, but spent most of her time there because she and her sisters were cared for by her uncle while her parents were at work. She disappeared Sunday morning while playing outside with her sisters. The police was called and it took them a while to find her because a 5 year old isn't easy to find. Going through many vacant apartments, the little girl was found 3 hours later. Dallas police then announced the arrest of Angel Sanchez, Katherine's 17 year old cousin, for strangulation of the little girl. The suspect lives in the apartment across from where Katherine's body was found. He was seen with her before her disappearance. Police don't know the reason behind Angel's actions, but they believe that he's responsible for her death.
When I found out about this, I was very heartbroken. There shouldn't be a reason to kill a child, especially a 5 year old who has so much to live for. What got to me was that Katherine celebrated her birthday a week before her actual birthday. While looking for Katherine, many residents living in the apartments tried to help as well. One said "we just got to find this little girl, I don't care who she is. Once the police shows you a picture, you just want to act like you have a badge, you want to look and you want to search." It's amazing how there are still people who care and who wouldn't mind lending a hand in their community.

ReplyDeletethis is terrible, its wierd to realize that the main suspect is her own cousin and that apart from that he is just 17, close to our age. why such a young man would kill an even younger child is unimaginable.

A truly sad tale and I hope that her family recovers and that the community can learn and feel safe again. I completely agree with you and your explanation is amazing. (Alan Niño 2nd period)
ReplyDeleteI don't understand why people feel the need to be violent to little children! It's crazy because that's like one of us strangling our little cousins....I hope this person is locked up for life.

To me, this is very heartbreaking. I can't imagine what mental state one would have to be in to kill an innocent child. It's incredibly saddening too, to think about the wasted life of someone that young, and what they might have been able to achieve.
ReplyDeleteThis amazes me, that someone would kill an innocent 5 year old. What shocks me he most is the fact that the killer was her own cousin. Family is suppose to be the people that you can feel safe around and have a good time. This poor girl had so much more of life to live.
