California's Drought:

California struggles through a dramatic amount of dry weather. Most residents are looking at falling reservoir levels, dusty air and thirsty lawns. But meteorologists have fixed their attention on the scientific phenomenon they say is to blame for the emerging drought: a vast zone of high pressure in the atmosphere off the West Coast, nearly four miles high and 2,000 miles long, so stubborn that one researcher has dubbed it the "Ridiculously Resilient Ridge."
If this drought continues the entire world could be effected tremendously. California is a large producer for food. This drought will dramatically reduce the amount of produce they make and sell. If this happens then produce costs will go up all over the world.
California is an incredibly important state, both economically and politically, for the US. Although tragic, the drought allows us to explore desalinization as a stable source of water supply.
