Diamond Ring Held For Summer School Tuition by: Heather McKay 2nd

Tamika Hamilton tells reporters that she could not afford to pay the $400 up front for her son's summer school classes. It was then that superintendent Charles Keenan suggested that she leave something of value in the district office until she is able to pay off the cost. The ring was kept safe in a district safe, there was a contract signed, and the son was able to attend classes.
Although this is very odd, i believe that the superintendent made a good and gracious move in allowing this ring to substitute for the $400 tuition. I'm sure he is getting all kinds of hate for whatever reason, however he claims to have done this multiple times and is only trying to help. I see the good intentions that are motivating him and i appreciate it tremendously. Not everyone can pay for the things they need at all times, so providing an alternate way to get payment in is ingenious and extremely helpful to many families.

  1. It is an odd method of payment, but it does allow people to attend the school.

  2. If the ring is worth as much as the tuition it shouldn't matter.

  3. I have never heard of this method of payment before, but am glad that it helped him in this situation and apparently other kids in this type of situations too! Very smart and thoughtful move for the superintendent.

  4. I just hope this poor woman can end up paying the tuition and she gets her ring back.
