Flawed GM Cars tied to 19 Known Deaths - Hannah Kalan 6th period

Originally, the General Motors (GM) company stated that only 13 deaths were tied to an ignition switch flaw in one of their cars, however now, there are more than 19 linked deaths. The sad thing about this is that it could have been prevented. GM engineers knew about the flaw and yet it went unreported for nearly a decade.

Those alone are just deaths. Ken Feinberg is the attorney overseeing a compensation fund for those who have lost someone, or have been injured due to the flawed vehicle mechanism. And, in the five weeks that he's been working on this, 125 death claims and 320 injury claims have been reported. That totals to 435 claims, all due to one small flaw in a car.

And now, on a more positive note, GM has publicly acknowledged the flaw in the car, and has recalled over 2.6 million vehicles to prevent further accidents.
