fear lingers two years after racist attack- Camryn Stafford

summary:
Two years after a racial incident at a birthday party thrown for Melissa Alford's three children, she remains terrified every day as she lives life. She has been scared since the July 2015 birthday party that someone may retaliate against her for pursuing justice. At the birthday party, an armed group calling itself "Respect the flag" crashed the birthday party and pulled out guns and knives, used racist slurs, and threatened to kill the guests. Kayla Norton, who loaded the shotgun, was sentenced to six years, while her partner Jose Torres, who wielded the gun, was sentenced to thirteen years. Today Alford has to continue to look over her shoulder and is terrified to sleep in her own home.

analysis:
The fact that she is still terrified after two years since the accident makes the accident even more real.  It makes the incident even more terrifying.  It is unfortunate that at first they weren't threatened because they were used to racist, pro-confederate, white people being around. It shows how racism obviously isn't dead and there are still people who take pride in killing others. The reason for this article is  to show that the oppressed are people too and they are terrified like any normal person would be. It shows how directly the actions of others can affect the affected. This can be synthesized to the nativist movements inflicted by those against minorities and immigrants.
