A man named Greg Smith is a Florida resident who made a connection to a homeless woman who calls herself Amy Joe. Amy cannot read, and therefore has little to no opportunity for employment. After continually receiving positive thoughts from Amy, Greg decided to take Amy Joe to lunch to get to know her better and ask why she never asks for money. Now, Greg teaches her to read whenever he takes her to lunch. He encourages people to help others whenever possible.
It's very refreshing to see articles dedicated to the connections complete strangers can make. I commend Amy Joe for her positivity despite having so little, and Smith for extending kindness to someone he would otherwise have no connection to.
This article is reminiscent of Dorothea Dix and her efforts to give people with mental illness proper care, just as Smith is attempting to give Amy so she can get a job.
