18 GIRLS KILLED IN FIRE AT SCHOOL DORM IN THAILAND
18 girls killed were killed in an overnight fire in their school dormitory. They are still in the process of identifying bodies. Thirty eight girls from ages 5 through 12 were sleeping when the fire began around 11:00pm at the private Pitakiatwitaya School Christian Elementary School. The do not know what caused the fire. 20 girls were rescued after firefighters searched through the halls for people. They were trying their best to save everyone, but the fire was spreading too quickly. The school was known for providing free education to hill tribe children. Around 60% of the students were poorer children from surrounding villages who had been receicing free education and accommodation to Christianity.
This is a very sad and scary incident. I believe the firefighters did truly try their hardest. Maybe schools should start enforcing fire drills more strictly to avoid incidents like this.
