No More Elephants at Ringling Bros Circus by Shelby Linker, 8th period

It was announced in January that the circus would cease their elephant shows but last weekend, on Sunday, was the last show the elephants would be a part of. The 11 elephants that are currently associated with the Ringling Bros Circus will be moved to the company's Center for Elephant Conservation in  Florida.

For many animal advocates this is great news and another win against a large corporation. This reminds me of earlier in the year when Seaworld announced their retirement of orca shows.

  1. My childhood self is really feeling down in the dumps, but knowing about how much safer/healthier the elephants (and orcas) will be in a controlled safe zone for them to live well and reproduce really makes me happy overall. I hope this speaks out to other companies who use animals, even if they haven't been awfully cruel to them.

  3. The animals are now technically free. They can live how they want to and be happy.

  4. I've been waiting for this for a long time, but I also can't wait to see how they substitute the elephant act for something else.

  5. It has taken way to long for companies to make this decision. Animals, especially large ones, cannot live a good life in captivity. Although it is sad for audience, it is the right thing to do and I really admire the Ringling Brothers Circus for doing this.
