Officer cleared in Freddie Gray case

Police Officer Edward Nero was found not guilty of all charges Monday in connection with the death of Freddie Gray. Nero, was one of six officers charged and the second to be tried in the Gray case. Nero was accused of second-degree intentional assault, two counts of misconduct in office and reckless endangerment. Nero was one of the three bike officers who were involved in the initial police encounter with Gray.The verdict comes a year after Gray's death on April 19, 2015.Gray's death became a symbol of the black community's distrust of police and as a result days of violent protests occurred. Nero also faced two counts of misconduct, as well as reckless endangerment for not putting a seat belt on Gray. Nero's reckless endangerment resulted in Gray dying from spinal injuries after being shackled without a seat belt in the van.
