Tony Abbott, who has been Prime Minister of Australia for less than two years, has been ousted by his own party. While he is a representative of the Liberal Party, one could argue that he's still stuck in the past. Abbott still strongly opposes gay marriage, is indifferent to climate change, and tough on refugees. Malcolm Turnbull is to take Abbott's place, adnd announced that he would "challenge" on Monday. Despite the inevitable conflict that will arise from the challenge, it was made clear that Abbott will not be able to return to his position as prime minister.
I'm not very familiar with Australian politics, but I do know that Tony Abbott became increasingly unpopular among Australian citizens after same sex marriage was legalized in the United States. Malcolm Turnbull is said to be more "moderate" of a politician, probably gaining him recognition among the Liberal Party. But does a more "moderate" stance mean more lenient? If so, will Australia begin to face immigration issues like the US?
