Potential Suicide Stopped By North Carolina Police Officer -Lauren Forrest -Flex

In North Carolina on September 9th, police officer Raleigh Senior Officer D.V. Hicks stopped a man from committing suicide.
An unnamed man was sitting on the edge of a high bridge and ready to jump when Hicks saw him and decided to lend a hand and a few words. After some time the man climbed over from the edge of the bridge and the officer brought him into a long embrace.
"He was getting that hug whether he wanted it or not" Hicks told CNN. This event occurred the day before National Suicide Prevention Day.

This story has already impacted so many people. It just shows that one act of kindness can save a life -or many lives.

  1. It's a good thing that Hicks was there! Interesting that this happened a day before National Suicide Prevention Day.

  2. It's so sad how people try and take their own lives, I wish problems like these would cease to exist, but I am very glad someone was there for this man! - Sophie Kurzius , 8th period

  3. That is horrible to hear that more and more people try to take their own lives. I feel as though this is one of the most unsolvable crisis's in America because there are plenty of mental and physical problems these days that we can solve with just one prescription, but suicide can be something unsuspected and happen out of no where.

  4. Despite the unfortunate context, it's refreshing to read something positive in the news about police. Lately, stories have been very negative towards police, and for valid reasons. Not to say that this act makes up for other acts of police brutality, but it does remind people of the positive effects police can have.
