Police Departments Undergo Transgender Training-- Rebecca Brandt 4th Period

Recently, there have been many attacks on police officers all over America. Yet instead of fixing this issue, many police departments, such as the department in St. Petersburg, have been focusing on the issue of transgender policy training. Many officers, when addressing a transgender, do not know what pronoun to use. Many people get very offended when they are called something that they prefer not to be called. To avoid this, the officers in St. Petersburg have been told to address a transgender person as his or her preferred or stated pronoun according to clothing cues or any other evidence. This training, also taking place in many other police departments around America, helps ensure the officers will act professionally and not offend anyone.

This article really shows how times have been changing in America. I think it is very smart and considerate that police officers are taking these training classes, however I do think there are more productive things they could be doing. The training is a good idea, but should really only take a couple hours out of one day. The author doesn't really take a stance on the issue, however the comments on the article are pretty gruesome, saying things like "we are turning this country into a bar scene out of Star Wars," and "this is beyond disgusting, this is not the true America." People should be more considerate of other people's feelings, just like the police officers are.

I think this is great how our country is progressing! but this is not an issue that police should be using any of their time on. they have much bigger needs/problems they need to be working on.
