Black Man Brutalized by Security Guard at Whole Foods for Trying to Buy Food
Tristin Manus, 8th period
A black man was beaten for no apparent reason by a racist security guard on Thursday night, September 4,2015, while peacefully trying to buy food. The man was unarmed and was absolutely not a threat to the people at the market. Zoe Marks, an eyewitness to the situation, claimed that the man was trying to used a food stamp card and an calm argument was occurring with the cashier. Marks said the victim wasn't "shouting", nor was being loud or destructive. He was genuinely trying to purchase his food like any other person in the store. The security guard came and attacked him. The security guard then slammed the victim into the concrete pillars, proceeded in putting him in a chokehold and suffocated him before throwing him on the ground unconscious. The security guard then locked him out of the store, despite the fact that he was unconscious. Marks said that none of the employees called the paramedics but instead for back-up. Oakland police department are currently investigating the attack. The victim is in stable condition at a local hospital. Whole Foods has released a statement about the situation, explaining that there will be no toleration for violence on there premises. The security guard has been permanently removed from all of the Whole Foods Markets. This situation has proved that racism still exists in America and something should be done about it. Just because he was a BLACK man, the security saw him as a threat because of his skin color. The stereotype about black men being thugs and thieves needs to stop now. The man was innocent, buying food for himself or his family. Racism is a huge issue in America that is still alive and blooming.

ReplyDeleteAnd yet, some people still have the nerve to say that racism doesn't exist. Racism is still a major issue in this country that needs to be fixed soon. To many innocent African Americans are dying in cold blood, and for what? Absolutely nothing. This makes me so sad and I feel so helpless because it doesn't seem like police forces are listening to anybody at all.
