Summary: This article discusses America's remembrance of the terrorist attacks that took place on American soil on September 9, 2001. Four passenger planes were hijacked; two flew into the World Trade Center buildings in New York, on few into the Pentagon outside Washington, and the last landed in a field in Pennsylvania. This terrorist attack resulted in 2,977 American lives lost. Loved ones of those who passed stood at the National September 11 Memorial podiums in New York, remembering their friends and family. In Pennsylvania, a moment of silence was observed at 10:03 a.m. followed by a reading of the names of the victims. A ceremony was held in Washington as well to commemorate the victims. President Obama observed a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m. (the minute in which the first plane struck the World Trade Center) and took time later that day to speak with troops in Maryland.
Analysis: It's incredible to see how many people came together because of this horrifying incident, and how so many people were strung together for the rest of their lives because they were all affected, in their own way, by this single act. I do think it's interesting that this article says nothing about the United States retaliation, which killed thousands of commoners that weren't linked to Al-Queda and should not have been held responsible for the 9/11 attacks. This article also says nothing about the intensification of bigotry and hatred towards Muslim people in the US after the attack. I think that this article could have branched out more and talked about how it affected everyone, not just the United States, but how the world changed so incredibly after 9/11.
Again, my heart goes out to those who lost a loved one on that terrible day fourteen years ago, and to everyone across the globe who was affected by it even after the planes crashed.
