Recently, Kim Davis had denied to give a same-sex couple to get a marriage license despite be legalized. Davis has now faced charges of breaking this relatively new law and has gone to court. A large number of people support her dicision of "following her conscience" and not giving the couple a license. She was released after spending five days in jail and will not resign unless she is not voted back into the position, which isn't until 2018.
Personally, I think hiding behind your religion to discriminate against people but preaching about love is the very definition of hypocrisy. You can't pick and chose what parts of your religion you decide to practice if you are so "devout" to it.

ReplyDeletePersonally, I think that it was unnecessary for her to face charges for this. It is her religion/ belief and though most of us do not agree with it we should still respect it and be the bigger person in this. I think they took it too far when they tried to charge her for giving her opinion. -Carli Copell, Period 6.
