From the ages of 15 to 24 years,
suicide is the third leading cause of death in America. On September 9, 2015 a
North Carolina police officer helped save one life on the verge of suicide. Officer D.V. Hicks was called to a busy
bridge on Wednesday night where a young man was standing on the edge preparing
for death. After talking the man down with not many words he reached in for a
long hug. "Call it tactical, call it compassionate, I think it was
probably both.” says Officer D.V. Hicks who committed this life-saving act. The
man is now receiving medical attention.
This story is heart warming; a
complete stranger has the ability to literally save someone’s life. Suicide is
a serious problem in America and this story proves that it is preventable.
Stories like this have the ability to enhance people’s awareness on suicide in
America. Acts like these prove that there are good people in this world.
