Kim Davis, a Kentucky clerk, was put in jail after she refused to issue gay marriage licenses. This is a violation of the Supreme Court's decision on same sex marriage that was legalized in June this year. It was William Smith Jr. and James Yates' sixth attempt to obtain a marriage license in the Rowan County of Kentucky, each time Davis denied them. After Davis' arrest, Smith Jr. and Yates, on Friday morning, were the first to receive as same sex marriage license in Rowan county. Davis released a statement saying, "I’ve weighed the cost and I’m prepared to go to jail, I sure am. This has never been a gay or lesbian issue for me. This is about upholding the word of God. This is a heaven or hell issue for me and for every other Christian that believes. This is a fight worth fighting."
I'm going to be honest, when it comes to things like this [people trying to run other peoples' lives] it really gets me worked up. Why are some people so arrogant that they believe they have the right to tell others about themselves and that who they are are wrong. The way I see it, their life usually doesn't directly affect you so what does it matter what they do, and even if it does, it's not your place to be telling them that they can't marry for love because of each others' gender. This reminds me of how all the Europeans came and settled in America and decided that it would be okay to force their religion and ideals upon another culture. Davis says that she doesn't refuse their license because of lesbian and gay but because of her religion but if you really think about it, it is because it's lesbian and gay couples (you didn't hear about her refusing "straight" people). I don't believe that any God would ever say, "These people who love each other with their whole hearts, just like any other couple, can't be married because they're the same gender," if your religion thinks that then they're either completely misinterpreting their God or it's not God at all and it's just you but you decided to blame it on your religion and God. We also have this thing called Separation of Church and State, so (I believe) if you work for any part of any government your religious beliefs shouldn't be mixed with you're work. I will respect others' culture and religion as long as they aren't trying to force it down my throat just because they believe "that's what God wants me to do."
You do you.
