This past Friday at around 3:30 in the morning, a Planned Parenthood establishment in Washington State was set fire. Yesterday, September 5th, the fire was confirmed arson. Fortunately no one was injured, but this wasn't the first time a Planned Parenthood clinic has been attacked in the area. In 1996, one facility was bombed, resulting in the conviction of four men. The domestic terrorists in both incidents are presumed to be heavily against abortion (even though these specific clinics don't provide abortions- only recommendations on where to go for one).
This news is difficult for me to accept. As someone who lived in Washington state for six years, I experienced first-hand how progressive and liberal the society there is. It's troubling, but unfortunately inevitable, that extremists will be found anywhere. The 1996 bombing occurred in Spokane Valley, a town only a few minutes from where I lived. Imagining these terrible acts of violence affecting my old community is difficult. I guess this acts as a wake up call of sorts.

ReplyDeletedue to the fact this is an reoccurring problem, they need to try and solve this as soon as possible. No one will feel safe other wise.
ReplyDeleteThe work of Planned Parenthood is so important I think. I used to know a woman who worked there as a doctor/physician, and she used to tell us about what she did. That organization has helped so many "early parents," and without it there would be many more situations in which children and babies would be abandoned. It's really unfortunate that people would do this.

ReplyDeleteI read an opinionated article last week discussing how religion isn't the problem, extremists are. I think this view can also be applied to political opinions too. I know many people who strongly disagree with abortion, while I personally am pro-abortion. After a peaceful debate and exchange of viewpoints, we simply agree to disagree. But people who are so dead-set on their opinion rely on extreme actions to ensure their voices are heard.
Even though Planned Parenthood is widely known for its abortion clinics, they also provide cancer screenings, family planning, and STD testing. The fact people, most likely pro-lifers, are consistently bombing and setting fire to these clinics, demonstrates how little they now how helpful this organization is. It also demonstrates how much of a hypocrite they are. How can you be pro-life if you bomb a building? (Bella Di Fazio pd: 8)
