"Convert or die: ISIS chief's former slave says he beat her, raped U.S. hostage" By Shara Jeyarajah

The article I read was centered around a teenaged girl who was kidnapped and abused by ISIS (Islamic State). The young girl was found in the mountains. She was of the Yazidi faith, one that believes in a single God that left a peacock behind to watch over their people. ISIS found that they were Satanists and not useful to the Islamic state cause, so the entire religious population was tormented. The girl, Zeinat, and her family, were seperated. The ISIS Chiefs constantly told the young girls at the camp that their sisters and mothers were married off, and that their fathers and brothers are dead. Zeinat was very discouraged, but she made a friend named Kayla. This is the same Kayla Mueller that has plastered news stands, an American journalist that was killed by an ISIS chief. New things were unveiled about Kayla through Zeinat's heartbreaking story. She and Kyla were roomed together and immediately grew close. The cell-like room that the girls stayed in was dingy, with no light and very little space. Kayla was said to be protective of younger girls both in the camp and back in America. Zeinat later found Kayla distraught and upset on several occasions, and Kayla revealed that she had been sexually abused and raped on several occasions by the chief. Kayla was later forced to accept an expensive watch and marry him. She was required to wear a niqab. Zienat never saw Kayla again after some period of time. Everything that Zeinat had said about Kayla matched the story of what reporters have uncovered about her story so far. Zeinat throughout this article talked about the routine beatings she had gotten, so bad that she and her peers were covered in black.
This article has stayed in my thoughts. It feels impossible that the world has housed humans for thousands of years, yet we are capable of acting in a way that benefits no one. This very minuscule group of Muslims looks for any way to stay within the limits of the Quran laws, yet break every moral rule that man has established. Though this is a stretch, I feel like the puritans (such as Winthrop) show some similarities. They say that they are God's "elite" group, saints even. They supposedly follow every rule in the Bible. They love "all" their neighbors… except for anyone that isn't a cisgender straight white man. Anyone else could be lied to, stolen from, even killed. Native American groups were sentenced to death. Black families were forced to labor under them. Women, as soon as they were married, automatically belong to their assigned husband, along with their belongings. All of these things can be compared to ISIS and their ways.

  1. this is something that is very hard to read about. Isis is something very dangerous to America and they can make a random move at any time and we may never be prepared for it.
