Katherine Flores: What really happened between Jorge Ramos and Donald Trump?

Summary:
After a showdown in Iowa between best known Spanish-language news anchor in the United States, Jorge Ramos and presidential candidate, Donald Trump, both sides were quick to make statements as to what happened during the heated press conference. Trump says that Jorge wasn't called on and so that is why he repeatedly told him to sit down and added "Go back to Univision". While, Jorge believes that the one good thing that did come out of this tense press conference was the unmasking of who Donald Trump really is. Jorge was just asking questions about his controversial immigration proposals  when Trump had security escort him out. Of course, Donald Trump added that security had acted on their own, but in the video that will be linked below, you can clearly see Trump signal them to take him away. Jorge states this was because he didn't want to answer certain questions so he'd rather avoid them than be honest about what he plans to do. He believes this is evidence that points to the way a dictator would behave which is dangerous to freedom of press. However, Trump makes sure to add in that Ramos was "acting like a madman" which is an exaggeration, but not completely false because he does tend to act like an advocate, especially towards men who threaten to build a wall surrounding the border and send 11 million undocumented immigrants home.

Analysis:
As much as Donald Trump may try to hide how rude and racist he truly is, insulting the most famous and beloved Spanish-language news anchor didn't help anyone. It showed more than ever before how much and how smoothly he tip-toes around questions because even after Ramos was allowed in and asked the question, he didn't really answer it. I just don't see first off, why he has supporters of any kind and secondly, how he doesn't realize that by acting this way, no one will take him seriously. He is a ridiculous, wealthy man who thinks he can buy himself that election and as much as money helps, you can't fool everyone. At this point, if he even makes it close to the Oval Office, I'm moving to another country because we wouldn't even get a new president, we would get a dictator.

  1. As a Mexican I can attest that truly no one in my family takes him seriously, we can't even find a stop to the hair jokes. But its no joke that while I don't take him seriously, I can't help but feel insulted by his bigotry and general disrespect towards all that doesn't fall under his narrow, simple-minded and moronic ideas. One thing's for sure, if he becomes the president by some catastrophic chance, we're up and moving to Canada!

  2. Heather Hatch 8th period: Donald Trump blows my mind. The way he thinks he can be rude to people unnecessarily JUST to get free publicity. I mean he just keeps doing ridiculous things to get in the news. From what it sounds like the report did nothing to deserve that. He is just trying to get publicity for his campaign even though he hopefully will not win. It also frustrates me how he still believes that he will win the Latino vote after all of the things he's said and done against the Latinos. I really hop people have enough sense not to vote for him.

  3. Donald Trump continuously uses sneaky but sometimes blatantly obvious ways of getting his racist "opinions" across. By insulting and stereotyping Mexican people, he proves that he does not want what's best for the country, but for his own personal preference. Trump continuously slams on Mexican immigrants, legal or not, even though his parents were illegal immigrants. (Bella Di Fazio/ comment #3/ pd: 8)

  4. The fact that he's popular shows us whats wrong with this country. There's all of these racist people that don't speak there mind gravitate to him and he talks crazy but it gets people riled up. which isn't a good thing. What he's doing is taking our country's problems such as the economy and jobs and putting the blame on one group of under-represented people feeding these hateful ideas into people and convincing people that we should move them away put up a wall to block them out and saying that that'll fix a lot of our problems. Sound familiar (coughs* hitler)

At first, Donald Trump was a joke and it was pretty funny. Then he began leading the polls, and now it's actually frightening. I thought I had more faith in our people, and Trump is making me lose it.

  7. While I believe that, with the presidential election over a year away, it is a little too early to be watching the race so closely, I do think that this story gives some interesting incite into one of the most controversial candidates. There are pros and cons to every candidate, and this story highlights one of the negatives to Donald Trump. How he reacted to the reporter was classless and rude. Do we, as a nation, really want someone like that as our president?

I'm not surprised by anything Trump does anymore. I can't imagine him, with how rude he is, meeting the leaders of other countries. I know many people are genuinely scared that they will lose everything if he becomes president, but the election isn't until a year from now, so hopefully this mess will be demolished. I read a shirt that says "If Donald Trump becomes president, Mexico will be the one with border issues". I would probably leave the country with him leading it too.
