A family in Seneca, South Carolina was on their way to church this Sunday morning when they heard their car run over something. They stepped out to investigate what was there and they saw a Ziploc bag with mints and smarties inside, accompanied by a white booklet reading "Save our Land, Join the Klan." The woman knew what this was and felt uneasy that a group like the KKK is still active and was recruiting Straight Whites to join the group because "Blacks, Gays, Jews and many more, are "illegal" in our land." This neighborhood is not the only place being targeted by the KKK. A Dark skinned Latino man says that he has gotten a similar bag on his door step in New York; he claims "I don't think they would want me in their clan considering I'm not White." A reporter called the KKK hotline and when talking to a member he said "there is no way to tell who lives where, so we leave them at every house we can." People have theorized that since the shooting in Ferguson, that it has rejuvenated the Klan to begin seeking members once again. Their hotline ends with "Always remember: If it ain't white, it ain't right. White power."
This article was written by Kristina Sgueglia, Marisa Marcellino andRay Sanchez, from cnn. When watching the video and reading the report on this article, I was shocked. The fact that there are still humans on the earth like this, disgust me. KKK, we are in a new time. All people are equal given you're Black, White, Christian, Jewish, Asian, Latino, Straight, Gay, you get my point. What gives you the right to say that If you're not white, you aren't right? Are you still in the mindset of the 1800's? Even where it was so apparent that everyone should be treated the same? Get your heads out of the gutter and realize that we are in the 21st century! The KKK members are naive to the new world around them, and need to understand that they are wanted by none.
I agree with your analysis completely! It is so disappointing that people don't give one another equal rights.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. It's sickening that an organization still exists in 2014. This highlights the fact that there are is still racial discrimination in the United States and that cannot go ignored.
ReplyDeleteYou're analysis is spot on! It is so disturbing that this racist organization still exists and is still on the rise. These types of actions should have ended long, long ago.

DeleteI agree! What got to me was when you said that the person on the hotline said that they try to leave information to every house they can. They shouldn't be trying to recruit people to begin with to such a sick group.
ReplyDeleteWow i had no idea the Kkk was still active! It's terrible! Its honestly so crazy how there is still so much racial discrimination in this country.
ReplyDeleteAs terrible as this is, it's important to note that the members probably did not just wake up one day and hate everyone that's different from them. Their parents were probably members of the KKK and taught their children that their views were the right views. And even though, in my oppinion, it is embarrising for our society that they're around, they still have the right to in America.
