Sexual Assualt on College Campuses - Roni Carleton 5th period

This article by Meredith Clark details what many universities are doing to aid victims of sexual assault. Colleges have a history of not coming to the aid of victims or coddling perpetrators, however this report indicates a shift in the treatment of victims and the consequences of these actions.
I'm sure most people have heard about how common cases of assault are on college campuses, and as high school students (particularly girls) this can be of concern when looking at a schools.
This article is important because it allows students who are going in to find the safest environment possible for them as well as letting students in other institutions know what they can ask of their school.

  1. It's actually not unlikely that someone in my Facebook feed is trying to make college campus sexual assault known because it happens everywhere, which is honestly disgusting. Check out the news on the date rape drug identifying nail polish. I haven't really researched it but it sounds like something everyone should invest in.

  2. I remember reading the book "Lucky" for Ms. Townsel's class last year about a girl who was raped on her college campus. That book really brought me a long the heartbreaking and disturbing journey of what she went through. After reading that, I realize how important it is that the students are protected and have opportunities to reach out for help when needed.

  3. I can't believe something like this can still happen, you would think after all the crap America has gone through for equality we could manage to be decent people
