Haimy Assefa and Ray Sanchez of CNN News tell us of a recent finding
that is interestingly timely at this part of year in their article from
September 7th. New York's Robert State Memorial Park is a central place
for many of those who have lost friends and family in the 9.11.01
terrorist attack, and that's just the place where Marlene Quinn
discovered the lost metal firefighter bracelet inscribed with the name
of an old childhood acquaintance from her hometown, while happening to
be thinking of her brother who had passed just a few months before hand,
and coincidentally was a volunteer firefighter. Marlene Quinn found the
address of the Otten residence, and sent the bracelet to the
unexpecting family. Michael Otten, the New York firefighter who passed
away on the recently remembered day, now thirteen years ago, left
behind a widow and two sons. Jonathon Otten, one of the sons, remembered
losing the bracelet nearly ten years ago, and how profound it was to
have it returned to him and his family recently. Both sons plan on
continuing the four-generation family line of firefighters, as both of
them are on the list to becoming New York City Firefighters. The
continuation along with the finding of the bracelet at such
commemorative time in the year bring a sense of comfort and well being
to the family, along with all of those who hear about this interesting
and timely event.
