11 Forest Fires in California cause thousands to evacuate by: Milan Hamilton 5th

Thousands of California residents have been forced to flee burning wildfires across the state. One wildfire in Northern California damaged and destroyed 100 structures and scorched over 300 acres of land on Monday near the town of Weed in Siskyou County, about 10 miles from Mount Shasta. All of this happened within a few hours. In this "Golden State" , the hot, dry weather has exacerbated conditions caused by a record drought. Not only are these wildfires destroying important buildings and forests, but they are bringing unhealthy smoke into the air. This has recently been prompting air-quality alerts in the parts of the state under high temperatures and low humidity. CalFire alone has responded to over 4,800 wildfires this year, 1,000 more than average. This doesn't include fires handled by the federal officials. The public is urged to be extra cautious outdoors in order to help prevent future wildfires.

It's sad to here so many lose their homes, churches and even work buildings by this natural disaster. And although the people in California have no control over the temperature and humidity at the time. There are some precautions that they can take to avoid  numerous amount of fires. It's important to be careful around forest areas. If you smoke, then it's important that you do you and the rest of the state a favor by being careful as to where you choose to do it. Because once one object catches on fire in or near a forest, it can spread at lighting speed and quickly encompass an entire area, destroying in its path. I hope that the towns are able to rebuild quickly and recover any things they have lost in these terrible wildfires!

  1. This disastrous occurrence is heartbreaking knowing how innocent people have to flee their homes. Wildfires are quite common in California due to the heat, and it is awful how this natural disaster cannot be easily controlled and requires to much time, effort, and money to do so. One can only hope that recovery will be efficient for those who have had to suffer.
