Last Friday, 42-year-old Omar Gonzalez jumped a fence at the White House and made it through the North Portico doors before being captured by Secret Service. When a disturbance was detected on the North Lawn, part of the White house was told to evacuate. Fortunately, the Obamas were not inside. They had left several minutes earlier to visit Camp David. After being apprehended, Gonzales was taken to George Washington Medical Center for an evaluation. An anonymous source released that they were familiar with the suspect for the incident, but they wouldn't say how. Brian Leary, a secret service told CNN, "he appeared to responding officers unarmed, and that turned out to be true. He ignored officers' calls for him to stop and run towards the White House."
The article was written by Michelle Kosinski of CNN News on September 20, 2014 at 5:10 PM. I had heard about the incident this morning, but wasn't filled in on the details. The article was probably written to assure the general public that the President was not harmed. It is very scary to think that it is so easy for a citizen to enter White House property. This makes me think that security is looser than the government assures us it is.
