"Largest climate change march in history kicks off in New York" - Vivie Behrens (Period 6, Week 4)
Today, September 21, 2014, tens of thousands of people, (ranging from environmental activists, public officials, celebrities, LGBT groups, students, clergy members to scientists) are all joining together in the largest climate change march in history. People from all over the world, including the U.S., China, India, Senegal, Zimbabwe, Philippines, Turkey, and South Africa, have gathered in downtown Manhattan to demand that global leaders address and take measures to prevent catastrophic climate change. On Tuesday, just days after this protest, the United Nations' 2014 Climate Summit will be gathering to discuss how the environment is already affecting societies across the globe and how to prevent carbon emissions, etc. This conference is a precursor to the 2015 Climate Change Conference in Paris, France, where actual agreements/laws will be solidified in hope to address climate change and prevent environmental disaster. This protest has brought awareness to many global leaders that the general population across the globe feels passionately that the environmental issues should be addressed and that the larger masses are willing to take action to prevent climatic disaster.
This article should stimulate a change in how people treat the environment as well as inspire the general public to take action just as these protestors have. This demonstration is a testament to how people, when mobilizing as a whole, have a great amount of collective power regardless of their status or background. Today's protest should get attention from world leaders across the globe, which creates higher chances that action will be taken that yield significant results. Personally, I am very moved by the efforts taken to address this issue and I feel it is my duty as a member of humanity to protect the environment will encompasses the future of civilization.

This is great news! Hopefully this march will really help to create new laws and regulations. I am in debate club, and this year's topic includes resolutions like the plan to place Wind turbine farms in open ocean to generate clean renewable energy, with climate change being a huge issue!
