Ku Klux Klan Recruitments by: Rachel Devine (6th period)

Residents in states ranging from New York to Texas have recently been falling upon fliers left on their doorsteps or driveways, which are advertising to join the historically famous, and apparently still prominent, Ku Klux Klan (also known as the KKK.) The fliers, that are placed inside plastic bags, contain membership applications and candies. Authorities believe that the cult, which in the past has mainly targeted African Americans along with Jews, immigrants, gays, and Catholics, is making a comeback possibly due to all the race issues going on in America right now; the incidents in Ferguson, Missouri seemed to entice members of the clan. With all of America's advances in society within the past forty years, it seems that those advances are coming to a halt and they are taking a step in the wrong direction.

This article disgusts me. I thought we had moved on from the issue of race years ago. The article was probably written to raise awareness of the KKK and to make sure we never go back to the way things used to be. The clan's slogans and mottos like "save our land, join the klan" and "if it ain't white, it ain't right," are ignorant and should be in the past. I think a large number of people will be offended by this article, including myself. The fact that people still believe in this clan (and that they would think to advertise it!) blows my mind.

  1. I don't understand how they could possibly start this organization up again. I thought that Americans had accepted it and had moved on by now.

    1. I agree with Teresa, America should not steep so low to let this continue any longer.

I also agree with Teresa and Mosey. I believe that this topic is already in the past. We have discussed this dispute so many times that it would be unnecesary to bring it to attention again, because it is already clear that it can no longer continue.

  2. This is a wonderfully written post. It has great details and is easy to read. On a personal note, I cannot believe they are making a comeback and I am very scared now. Hopefully they won't hurt anyone, especially since America has enough to deal with right now.

  3. That's find of ridiculous. I don't understand how an individual (or in this case, an entire cult) can function in a modern society that embraces and promotes our diverse background and culture. I could see the KKK targeting not only minorities and religious groups, but people of different sexual orientation as well.
