And Cates Returns by Destiny Ramirez 4th Period

Over a year and a half ago, 26-year-old Kaitlynn Cates was a victim of the Boston Marathon bombing. In result, she lost 30% of her right calf and was in surgeries and rehab for more than a year. Cates was a student at Suffolk University, and an all-star tennis player, winning "Player of the Year" in 2008. Cates was also a teacher and coach at Willowbend Country Club. After more than  of year of surgeries and rehab Cates returns to the courts this past week.

This article was written by Ethan Genter of Cape Cod Times Online. I found this article very interesting because I think Cates is truly inspiring. She almost lost her leg and yet still never gave up hope. She went through allot for what she wanted for herself, and now has. I feel that sometimes allot of people in this world, especially in this society, give up too often and quite frankly too easily. I hope that Kaitlynn's determination and success inspires other people to not give up too easily and work hard for what they want.

  1. It's great that she isn't giving up doing what she loves even after such a traumatic incident!

  2. In such a sheltered world, I cannot even imagine the strength required to overcome such adversity as this. Losing a limb will always be a fear of mine, for I can't be sure if I would have what it takes to make it through and still accomplish my ordinary goals for life. Seeing a woman like myself triumph over this terrorist attack that literally hit her close to home relieves my fears somewhat.
