ALS Ice Bucket Challenge Gone Wrong- by Rachel Devine (6th Period)

Yesterday, the Bay Village Police Department identified three teens who were behind a very cruel prank that was targeted towards a 15-year-old boy with autism. What the boy thought was going to be a fun "challenge" filled with ice turned into the ALS urine, feces, and spit challenge... Authorities are not yet releasing the names of the teens behind this, but celebrities ranging from Drew Carey to Jenny McCarthy are offering rewards to reveal those who were responsible. The whole community is angry and they are hoping to turn this unfortunate situation into a postitive way to raise awareness of autism.

Not only does it upset me that the teens behind this did it to a boy with autism and they took advantage of him, but also that they turned the phenominom of the ALS ice bucket challenge into a joke. Neither autism or ALS is funny and I hope they realize how one small prank has affected so many people.

  1. This is wrong that people would treat people like this. Not only is he a regular person, but they are bullying him for something he can't help. Quentin Noble

  2. This story makes me sick to my stomach. There are no words to justify what this boy went through. It's sickening that he's being picked on because of his disability, rather than being treated normally despite his disability.

  3. These actions are completely sickening in every way possible. I cannot believe that humanity has become so unethical. I hope that this article spreads awareness to bullying prevention in general.
