A Library Without Books- Jade Contreras 2nd pd
Florida Polytechnic University, home of a book free library? The university's library doesn't offer a single physical copy of any book but it does allow access to hundreds of thousands of e-books. Many students may prefer to have a book in hand, but the convenience may outweigh the doubts some students have. I think this is a great thing! Digital downloading makes it easy to get books within a few seconds. This also is environmentally friendly, less paper = more trees. This digital library could be the first of many. http://college.usatoday.com/2014/09/01/a-library-without-books-yep-its-a-thing/

While I agree with you that a digital library can be more efficient and most definitely more environmentally friendly, I don't know how I feel about this. I'm not a huge reader but there is something about having an actual book in your hands, curling up on the couch, and enjoying a nice book. We have transformed into such a technology dependent generation. Yes, it does prove many benefits but also there is a certain element missing in it.
ReplyDeleteI think there are ups and downs to having physical books vs. digital. While digital books are easy to quickly obtain and have for the most part, more options, physical books enable you to write in them as well as easily turn a page and allow you to immediately find the place you left off at. This "book-less library" is a very interesting concept, though!
