California plastic bag ban

California is now joining the anti-plastic bag bandwagon!
The California Senate recently voted 22-15 to illegalize  use of Plastic bags in California. This has been done in only a few cities throughout the U.S including Portland and Hawaii Maui county. California lawmakers are hoping to ban it throughout the WHOLE STATE...That means absolutely NO plastic bags in grocery stores, pharmacies, and other businesses... Like, whoa dude!
Keeping the environment clean has grown more significant in the last few years due to the increase of greenhouse gasses being thrown out into the atmosphere. Plastic bags being one of the culprits. Plastic bags are also known as a 'death food' for animals in the ocean. They think it's yummy food, they eat it, next thing you know, they're dead. And the plastic bags are being left around wherever, which is just sloppy.
So if we get rid of plastic bags, the Earth and everyone on it will be happy campers. Right?  WRONG. Plastic bag producers are speaking out saying, this ban will kill their businesses and people will be laid off.  Though the loss of jobs is an obvious downfall, this law is the start of cleaning up and saving our planet. The waters, the beaches and the streets of California will be cleaner and safer. Way to go California!

  2. I think that getting rid of plastic bags is a good idea, but if it i putting people out of business, maybe a different solution is needed. Maybe it would be better for everyone to just recycle plastic bags instead of throwing them away.
