Lady Liberty | Mica Stout

Andrew Cuomo, Governor of New York, stated that even though the government shut down, they will reopen Lady Liberty for the sake of immigration. He stated that they are all about welcoming people, so it’s important that the statue is open for view. 

It’s good to know that they keep The Statue of Liberty alive for the people to see. “It’s all about bringing people here”, Cuomo says. America is supposed to be a welcoming place despite what the government does or doesn’t do. 

Immigration after the Civil war brought people in for all kinds of new things like jobs, technology, etc. As long as there is a symbol of hope for people to see, then it makes for a better country.
