Leah Lara- Trump's Undefined Immigration Policy
Trump's Baffling immigration Wobbles
The article above, written by Sarah Wheaton, discusses the inconstancy of Donald Trump's immigration stances and plans. Donald Trump claims to be willing to "soften" his immigration stance, however is still adamant to his controversial wall tactic. Donald Trump firmly believes in the removal of undocumented immigrants, without any concrete evidence that he would actually be able to execute this plan. Trump "plan" would keep families together while deporting them, and treat them in a "humane" way. But when asked by interviewers, he frequently skips around of how exactly this would be accomplished. The video accompanying the article is a short contemplation of Trump's different stances in interviews.
When I hear about Trump's immigration plans, and his demonetization of undocumented Mexicans- one specific point in history comes to mind. At first Hitler's strategy was not to massacre Jews. He first dehumanized, and demonized them through public speeches, blaming them for Germany's loss of WW1 and the downfall of the German economy. Donald Trump has publicly blamed undocumented immigrants for America's problems saying; "They're bringing drugs, they're bringing crime, they're rapists," and "They're ruining our America". Hitler's second approach was to deport them to other countries, ripping families from their homes and their identities. Donald Trump plans to do the same. When deportation didn't work fast enough, Hitler turned to "The Final Solution." With Trump's believes, and bigotry, who knows what he will propose in the future.

Gray Breidenbach: if we have undocumented people living in America wont that be a strain on the American economy? because it would drastically increase the poverty level.
ReplyDeleteOn the contrary, Undocumented Immigrants are a pillar in the current american economy. They are willing to do jobs that most americans aren't willing to do (fast food, construction, fruit picking, etc.), and they'll do it for cheaper than minimum wage (the average for undocumented immigrants is $6/hour, while minimum wage is $7.25/hour), which allows our goods to be cheaper. If undocumented immigrants were all deported it would be a strain on our economy because the positions that they once filled would have to have higher wages to get americans to do them, which would make goods more expensive. So, the undocumented immigrants living in america aren't increasing our poverty level, they are actually keeping prices low, which helps people in poverty (not to mention most of them are living in poverty themselves)
DeleteI feel that no matter what undocumented immigrants should not be here because they will ruin our economy! -kiana sanderson
ReplyDeletebut they aren't going to ruin our economy. They are actually good for the American economy (see above comment)
DeleteI don't think that the comparison of Trump to Hitler is really the best analogy that could be used, or in the best of taste. Trump grew up around racism and copied it from his father like a normal child. Hitler grew up in the Jewish community and his hatred for Jews came later on in life (around his teens and twenties) because he felt that they were preventing his success. I'm not saying that what Trump is doing is right, but I don't thunk that a comparison to Hitler is the best way this could have gone. Comparison to Hitler in modern discourse is a serious problem and you can learn more about it here: https://youtu.be/A0ZyhPfBnNc
