Alyssa Sartuche - Italy earthquake

Italy earthquake survivors: the future is finished
Posted by Luaren Said- Moorehouse and Sarah Tilotta on Auguest 28, 2016

Summary:  On August 23, 2016 at 8:36 pm Norcia PG, Italy experienced a magnitude of a 6.2 earthquake. Instead of the locals walking around for a huge festival the next day, they walked around devastated about the houses and buildings all destroyed. As we know of right now 290 people have died thought out the region. The majority of the people were killed in the rural town. The next day, many people came to help not knowing after shocks were going to happen. Everyone was helping when they had to run out of buildings seeing more buildings collapse. For about three days straight, the residents still continued to walk around in fear waiting for more after shocks to come. The locals still are waiting for their loved ones to be found.

Analysis:  This specific earthquake is very similar to an earthquake that happened in the past.  In California of March 10, 1933 long beach experienced an earthquake of a 6.4 magnitude. That magnitude is very similar to the one in Italy. California was fortunate enough to to have not as many casualties. They ended up having about 120 deaths. Also when they had there after shocks many of them weren't injured by the earthquake it self but by running out of buildings in tights areas.

  1. Such a tragic event that happened! Hearing about an event like this makes me wonder if others can learn from the mistakes that were made in Italy. Hopefully, when the next earthquake hits, people will know not to go and help until they are cleared to do so.

  2. This is a terrible event that happened in Italy, and I wish there was a way to predict earthquakes! It's so sad that it was at night while they were all sleeping and had no time to get somewhere safe!

  3. This was heartbreaking for me to hear. I spent two weeks in Italy this summer, and the people were so lovely and kind there. This reminded me of all of the earthquakes that happen in Chile. The largest earthquake in the world happened in Chile in 1960. It had a magnitude of a 9.5, and it killed about 1,655 people. Earthquakes make my heart hurt because there is nothing we can do to prevent them.
