Last Friday, August 26, marked the 45th anniversary of women's equality, which celebrates the passing of the 19th amendment that gave women the right to vote. For some people voting was only a step for women, and women's advocates worked towards a greater issue in obtaining equal constitutional rights. The equal rights amendment was introduced to the congress in 1923, but was never passed. In 1972 the equal rights amendment was passed and sent to state, but it fell 3 states short in 1982.
I found this to be shocking that women still don't have equal constitutional rights. This pertains back to August 18th, 1920 when the 19th amendment was passed and women were granted the right to vote.

Although nobody was hurt, it is a bummer for all of these passengers to go through this. My best friend was on the Southwest flight that crash landed at LaGuardia a few years ago in NYC. I hope Southwest will be extra careful about the safety of their airplanes. I am glad the pilots are well trained to handle emergency landings like these.

Women's rights is something that was developed many years after men had rights. It was due to gender inequality. Today, it is still present. Women get paid less money than men doing the same jobs. It should be rethought out and there should definitely be equal pay.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you Maddie, still today the pay gap is very wide between men and women. Women earn 76 to 79 cents of every dollar men earn. Also, based on median weekly wage and assuming the woman works every week of the average working life, by the age of 65 the average woman will have lost 431,000 dollars because of pay gap!
