Summary: Andrew Jones was valedictorian of his high school and on graduation day yet he did not participate. It is very sad, the only reason was because he had a goatee. Jones said that his beard was never a problem throughout his high school so he did not expect such a consequence. It is very disappointing because he had straight A's all throughout high school. He worked all four years and he could not attend his graduation. It is a real shame because he will never have this experience again.
Analysis: The NAACP is working on trying to get justice for him. This is interesting because the NAACP was formed in 1909 and it is still relevant today. Most people would say that there is no need for the NAACP but they do not know how unfair life is for an african-american. Only people who have experienced such unfairness know how important the NAACP is to them.

ReplyDeleteIf he was not able to walk at graduation because he had a goatee why did the NAACP get involved? Aren't they making this a racial situation? However, I completely agree that this is sad.
Andrew Jones is african american, the naacp felt that the school board was being unjust based on his skin color.(Alejandra Hernandez 6th period)
