US Hawaii: Lesbian pair held after kissing win damages Jasmine Rodriguez Period 4

This article talks about two girls who were told to "go somewhere else" by a police when they were found kissing in public in Hawaii. They tried to ignore the situation and just be polite to the police, but when the police saw them later being affectionate in a store, the police threatened to kick them out. The two girls tried to argue in court that they were harassed, but they ended up having to spend 3 days in jail after trying to settle the issue. This was a touchy subject because it dealt with sex discrimination, and gay rights have not been entirely set in stone in the government.

This issue is a lot like the rise in the liberal movement of the 1920's. During the 1920's there was a rise in sexualizaiton of women and behavior that was not acceptable before the time. This included women drinking and partying, wearing short dresses and having casual sex. This behavior was not completely normal yet, just as the public affection of gays in not entirely acceptable by all of society in this day in age. It is sad that people who are trying to just have normal lives in public are "not allowed" to do normal things because of their sexual identity.
