Summary: A U.S. senator wants an investigation to be opened on a company that wants to target billboard ads to specific consumers. These spying billboards could potentially violate the phone privacy rights of the people via the ad space. Many argue that a person's personal cellphone should remain personal no matter what. Despite efforts to try and protect the people's privacy, there is no way to get around the fact that they would be tapping into phones to get information even if it is for the good of consumer advertising. In addition, even if they add a terms and agreement contract to an app or something similar, this "spyware" takes the location of consumers without many even knowing it.
Analysis: I believe this is completely unfair and going a bit too far. I understand that these companies want to better their advertising base, but honestly, this is causing more problems than it is solving. Of course if you are tapping into people's phones, they are going to get upset. They assume that whatever they do on their phone stays on their phone and is for their eyes only, as it should be. Even if their was an agreement, at the end of the day, it's not like anyone actually reads them. They wouldn't know that by agreeing to the contract, their location would be given out. Furthermore, what would this company do if that information got out? People would be put at risk out on the streets because anyone would be able to know exactly where they are. I am glad an investigation is being opened because this has to be stopped.
