A threatening new issue has arisen in New Orleans, and it's an issue no one would suspect. Geophysical Researchers have been monitoring ground levels in the city, and have found that certain neighborhoods have been averaging about .5-1.5 inches per year over the course of the study(2008-2012). This is particularly dangerous because the city is already below sea level. This is an issue because when hurricane Katrina hit, it flooded the city and made it extremely hard to deliver relief efforts. The cause of the problem is groundwater levels being at an all time low.
