Madi Thoele, Period 4: Bubba the Dog Tests Positive for Meth and Heroin

Summary: Tustin Police Lt. Robert Wright says Bubba the dog (a terrier mix) was found in a hotel room after officers served an arrest warrant for Joshua West, 40, on March 22 in Orange County, California. West was on parole for drug violations. Illegal drugs were found in the hotel room along with used needles. The dog was retrieved by Orange County Animal Care. OCAC contacted the Police later and informed them that he may have been under the influence of drugs, calling him "lethargic". Bubba's urine was tested and the results came back positive for meth and heroin. Tustin Police say they have asked the Orange County District Attorney to charge West with animal cruelty as well as illegal drug possession. He's already being held in the Orange County jail for the warrant. Once Bubba recovers, OCAC says he will be put up for adoption.
Analysis: It's saddening that this man either gave the dog drugs, or left him unsupervised and he ingested them himself. Hopefully, Bubba will recover smoothly and be adopted into a loving home. Joshua West can be synthesized back to the '70s, where the majority of the U.S. population distrusted the government. In the '70s, the government was seen as untrustworthy due to many events, such as the release of the Pentagon Papers or the Watergate Scandal during Nixon's Presidency. West is also now seen as untrustworthy because of his actions. He was given the opportunity to adopt a dog, but his privilege will be taken away because of how poorly he handled the situation. This is similar to president Nixon because once he was accused of committing the Watergate Scandal, he denied being a part in it, and even refused to release the security tapes documenting the scandal. Both West and Nixon, because of their actions, are no longer trusted by the general public.

  1. Angelique Flores 9th- as a dog owner this story frustrates me. Never should and animal be treated as this dog was. Nor should they be around drugs.

  2. Why would you give your dog drugs? Aren't drugs expensive and hard to find anyways?

  4. This is awful to hear about, and I'm not sure if I even want to know whether Bubba ingested them himself due to lack of care or hunger, or else the owner, West, purposefully fed them to him. I hope the dog is able to find a family wi=ho will love and take good care of him!

  5. Either way the dog ingested the drugs, it still qualifies as animal abuse, very sad
