Glyphosate Pesticide Being Found Everywhere- Nicole Chatham 6th period

This week I read an article about the weed-killing pesticide known as Glyphosate. This pesticide is now being found just about everywhere and people are even suing Quaker Oats for Glyphosate turning up in their 1-minute oats product.  This pesticide is the most heavily used pesticide in history, and the Food and Drug Administration will begin to test for it later this year. While there are several claims that this pesticide will not be harmful to humans, there are a lot of unknown variables about this pesticide and especially what it will do with long term exposure (even in small amounts) to people.

Analysis- I find this article to be very interesting because it directly affects us, even when we don't realize it. It's amazing how much pesticides and chemicals impact our lives and it's so important to be informed about them! I can relate this article back in U.S. history to when the book "Silent Spring" was published and lead to the creation of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Within this book the author Rachel Carson discusses the harm of pesticides to people, animals and the environment. She provides excellent detail in scientific information and real accounts of places and people that have been effected by these chemicals. This article and the book are interconnected through the attention brought to the subject of pesticides and the continuous changes taking place in our world.

  2. Matthew Homsher 9th- I'm glad I don't eat oatmeal, but I'm also worried that too much of this kind of thing is going on. I've read articles about GMOs, mouse heads in food, and now deadly pesticides, all related to the FDA. We really need to revamp the FDA program because there are too many of these incidents slipping through the cracks.
