Disney's Jungle Book Million Dollar Opening- Tea Devereaux

The 1967 Disney animated classic's reboot dominated the box office, "roaring" to an estimated $103.6 million in its opening weekend. This is an incredibly strong number, as only "Furious 7" has had a more successful start this year. The Jungle Book's profit is even more surprising considering it was only expected to bring in $75 million; instead, over $240 million was made globally. The voices of stars like Bill Murray, along with positive reviews from sites like Cinemascore and Rotten Tomatoes, will undoubtedly result in even more 'The Jungle Book' theaters filling up. There is also an "Iron Man" vibe, as the movie also features the voice of Scarlett Johansson and is directed by Jon Favreau (director of Iron Man): the movie should be full of action.

'Jungle Book's success is representative of how big Disney's audience remains, no matter how old. It also displays the positive reception to live action portrayals of animated classics. Previous films like 'Alice in Wonderland', 'Maleficient', and 'Cinderella' have brought in more than $2.3 billion worldwide. Next up for Disney is 'Finding Dory', a sequel to Finding Nemo.
