Early Monday the Iraqi Prime minister announced the start of an operation to recapture the city of Fulluja from ISIS. The Prime minister said that the Iraqui security forces would provide citizens with safe passage to leave the city amid the operation. Military spokesman Brig Gen announced "I am calling for citizens who are inside Fulluja to leave their areas and head towards safe corridors". The Prime minister is personally overseeing the military operation to retake the city. Iraqui planes have dropped thousands of leaflets(safe passage cards) all over Fulluja. Human rights watch warned last month that ISIS was barring civilians from leaving Fulluja and that residents suffered starvation and high prices after an extended siege. Families who are unable to flee the city have been told to raise a white flag above their homes and call an emergency line to seek evacuation.
CNN- Iraqi Operation to evacuate Fulluja
Its about time that the government in Iraq gave the residents there a way to get out from ISIS's reign. Even though this is only one city that they are evacuating it symbolizes the start of more evacuation and a force that goes against ISIS. This article written by Jomana Kardsheh, CNN, publicizes the fight against ISIS and gives hope to the world. Fulluja, in Sunni-dominated Anbar province, was the scene of two major battles during the Iraq War. It has been under ISIS control since January 2014. Hopefully these evacuations become more widespread and safety comes to these ISIS driven citizens.
