5-Year-Old Accidentally Shoots and Kills Self// Arianna Sotero

A 5 year old girl in Laplace, Louisiana lost her life this week when she got ahold of her father's gun and accidentally shot herself. Although police isn't sure how she got the gun, she was alone when she found it, her father in the shower and her siblings in another part of the house. After the child had fired at herself, her siblings ran to get help from the neighbors while the father reached to 911. The 5-year-old passed at the hospital that night.

This is a very tragic story; but it is unfortunately common. Many children have died due to irresponsibility and simple accidents from discovering guns in their household. Many people use these stories to fight against the American's right "to bear arms" (Second Amendment) and argue that guns should not be in any household with children. I hope that this argument will resolve soon and parents will be reminded that gun safety is very important to teach their children.

This is tragic, but hopefully it encourages parents to keep guns out of a child's reach, Which they should already do.

  2. I was reading this article too and wrote my current event on it. The article I was reading named several other instances when children have gotten a hold of guns and it didn't end very good.

  3. this is so sad, especially that this child had access to a gun and also the fact that this has happened multiple times before.

  4. How did this child get access to a gun? I blame that on parents. A gun should never be close enough for a child to get ahold of it.

  5. It's very upsetting to think that a simple mistake cost a life, and it all could have been prevented
