This article discusses a virus called the Zika virus that may be extremely dangerous to the American society. This virus can be transmitted via mosquito, and has been linked to a wide range of recent birth defects. The outbreak began nearly a year ago in Brazil, and now has spread to more US states than originally thought to be possible. The president has asked Congress for emergency funding to fight the virus.
The events in this article are somewhat similar to what happened to the Native Americans when the first Europeans arrived to colonize America. The Native Americans were taken out by countless diseases brought by the Europeans that they were not used to, and therefore were uneducated on how to fight. This is somewhat similar to the Zika virus in that it is being spread in the United States though it originated in Brazil. Luckily, we now have the resources to quickly find solutions to the problem of the spreading virus so we can protect as many people as possible without having them just immediately succumb to the terms of the virus (as the Native Americans were forced to do with the diseases brought by the Europeans).

ReplyDeleteIt's extremely concerning. For a lot of people it isn't as bad but the scary part is the effect of zika on those during pregnancy. There is currently no vaccine so people need to be careful. as for the executive action that was very smart by the president but it's not enough. Congress needs to take action to fund research to combat zika.
