Tajia Stroud (5th period): "Conjoined Sisters Undergo Rare Separation Surgery in Texas***

Summary***
Born on May 16, 2015, a pair of sisters conjoined at the waist were the first conjoined siblings to receive separation surgery at Driscoll Children's Hospital in Corpus Cristi. The twins are a part of a triplet set and according to the hospital's news release, the chance of having a triplet involving a pair of conjoined siblings is 1 in 50 million. The two females shared a colon and a bladder and these organs are planned to be reconstructed once the surgery is complete. A team of specialists have been diligently working for months to prepare for this procedure.

Analysis ***
I think that this subject is never really discussed and it's actually amazing how these conjoined sisters still seem pretty healthy beside the fact that they are conjoined. I also liked the fact that this specific birth was a historic moment for the Texas Hospital. It seems to me that the family is very proud and hopeful for the surgery and the parents are going to be very accepting and supportive of their children after the final reconstruction process. This could relate to when it became more common for a child to have a single parent. It shows that if the child has all of the attributes of a healthy lifestyle, starting with the parent(s), the child will live a well-grounded life no matter what the condition.
