The United States authorized a cyber offensive against the Islamic State by developing military hackers against the extremist group's computer and cellphone networks. Launched from Ft. Meade in Maryland, the cyber attack represents a shift in America's fighting strategy, meaning U.S. is the only nation to acknowledge the launch of a cyber war.
This event is significant because after the horrid events in Paris and San Bernardino last year, U.S. government officials have cracked down more on the Islamic State's digital realm. Arguably a continuation of the War on Terror, the U.S. takes another step to combat the Islamic State and its terrorist ways. Hacker teams working with U.S. Central Command will focus on "disrupting Islamic State's ability to command and control, to communicate, and to run the so-called state."
